Building and scaling the payment systems behind a creator economy platform processing hundreds of millions in GMV.
The Challenge
Uscreen's payment infrastructure dates back to 2016–2017. As the platform grew, so did the complexity: multiple payment providers, legacy integrations, and a checkout experience that needed to keep pace with rapidly scaling transaction volume.
What I Did
I led and contributed to major payment infrastructure initiatives across the platform:
- Stripe Connect integration — Enabled creators to sell directly through Uscreen while accepting payments at checkout, opening up new business models for the platform
- PayPal integrations — Added and maintained PayPal as a payment option, expanding checkout accessibility for global audiences
- Payment provider migrations — Managed the migration of live payment traffic between providers without disrupting active revenue streams
- Checkout optimization — Used data analysis, experimentation, and funnel research to identify and fix conversion bottlenecks, reduce failure rates, and improve the end-to-end purchase experience
Impact
- Supported payment systems approaching ~$1B in gross merchandise volume
- Improved checkout conversion through systematic experimentation and data-driven iteration
- Maintained payment reliability and compliance while evolving a complex legacy system
- Enabled new monetization models for creators through Stripe Connect
